Music has been a part of me for as long as I can remember. Nothing has ever captivated, grabbed hold of, and inspired me through life more. Ever since I was a small child the sound of Jazz has always turned my ear and opened my mind. I started out reading music and playing the Tenor Sax, and though I loved it, and to this day still do, it wasn’t until I picked up my grandfather’s old Guild jazzbox that I found my home in this place that we call the musical world, and I knew right away!

I remember being taught the basic Major and Minor chord shapes by my old man, and how to move them, BUT THAT’S IT! I was left with nothing but my own creativity in a vast ocean of possibility. Each day as a young kid I would dig deeper, experiment with new ways to play chords and notes, while all the while idolizing and pretending to be any one of my many heroes at the time. Before I knew it I was like a chameleon, blending into the sounds and my own style! I even began writing my own songs, and that was a HUGE step to take at such a young age. I couldn’t stop. The snowball was rolling with too much momentum, but that’s where things get real. The more I learned, the more I discovered what I didn’t know. The art of music, and all it’s essential elements started to grow, uncontrollably. If I had ever wanted to live in the light that had just merely shined a glimmer on me I knew I had to dive further down the rabbit hole, into some real dark places, musically, personally and spiritually to find where inspiration truly comes from. This would become the biggest undertaking of my life…

Fast forward roughly sixteen years to the current day, and not much has changed, arguably if at all. I am still on this quest for truth which I now begin to understand will never come to an end. It’s not meant to. All the years studying, performing, traveling, communicating, meeting people and learning from them, doubting yourself, hitting dead ends only to turn around and go back are not steps in one direction toward a final outcome. Rather pigments of color in a great painting on an infinite canvas. Each one of us is lucky to have our own unique imprint, and it makes us who we are.
