In early 2017, Travis had just left a thrash metal tribute band, and started writing and recording new songs at home. Travis had just Pro Tools Express and EZ Drummer 2, along with his Line 6 Spider III amp and a couple of pedals, and three Schecter Guitars, but it was all enough to make hard hitting songs. Travis had a wide range of musical knowledge from graduating the GIT program at Musicians Institute (2010-2011). The first song to be recorded music wise, was “Damaged,” followed by “Crucified” and later “False Idol.” The main goal was to have an original sound, heavy riffs, head banging verses, catchy melodic choruses, and blazing solos. Travis and Marc Bravo had both been in a previous hard rock/metal band a year before, but both had left as the project came to an end. Travis later reached out to Marc, online, about starting a brand new all original hard rock/metal band. From there, both went to a home studio of rock drummer Bobby Amaro (Stabbing Westward, Orgy), to record vocals over the three songs, and later releasing them online.

In September 2017, with a first version lineup of the band, Beyond Retaliation went on to sell all their tickets, and do their first show at The Whisky A Go-Go, in Hollywood, opening up for Orgy. The setlist included the first three songs, along with two new songs, and a cover of Disturbed’s “Land Of Confusion.” Beyond Retaliation continued to do shows for the next year at various venues: Characters, E-Sports Arena, Five Star Bar (Vans Warped Tour Battle Of The Bands), Mission Tobacco Lounge, The Parrish Room of House Of Blues Anaheim, M3 Live (Recording Distribution Battle Of The Bands), and upcoming in March 2019: The Yost Theater.

Travis Grady adds his original sound and influences of Joe Perry, Eddie Van Halen, Synyster Gates, Jim Root, Steve Vai, Buckethead, and John 5, amongst others, to the songs, as well as different songwriting structures. Marc Bravo includes his combination of R&B vocals and hard rock/metal vocals to the setlist. Travis and Marc later met Chuck Loyer in early 2018, through a mutual friend, and Chuck was able to bring in a whole new and heavier sound to the band. Using both four and five string bass guitars, Chuck adds a huge backbone and foundation, found in bands like Mudvayne or Korn, to the songs live. Brandon De Sande later joined Beyond Retaliation in late 2018, bringing in his wide influences of Sevendust and Breaking Benjamin to the band, adding a whole new element of stomping beats, machine gun double bass, and grooves.

Beyond Retaliation lists such bands as their main influences: Avenged Sevenfold, Korn, Disturbed, Breaking Benjamin, Sevendust, Slipknot, Five Finger Death Punch, Rammstein, Chevelle, and many others. Their goal is to succeed in the music industry and start touring both nationally and internationally, and continue making full adrenaline hard rock songs. Beyond Retaliation has upcoming shows in March 2019, including direct support of LA Guns at The Yost Theater in Santa Ana.
